Tom "Top" Clark | President Emeritus: While residing as a son of an Army military service father stationed in Germany in the 1960s, Top was introduced to popular music through the British Invasion via a transistor radio tuned nightly to Radio Luxenbourg. Listening to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and other popular music groups of the day led to an appreciation for Blues, Rock, Jazz, and a varied musical taste. The gift of a Kay guitar at the age of 14 led to a lifetime of guitar playing, mostly for self entertainment. Upon his semi-retirement from a sales and business career he began to utilize his talents on guitar, harmonica, and vocals in the formation and performances with the bands Sweet Surrender, Retro Rose, and Retro Rose II, which he co-founded with his wife Tamra. Retro Rose has been nominated for a MACT Groovy music award for Rock Band of the Year. Top received the MACT Founders Award. He is also the Chapter Coordinator for the National organization Guitars for Vets; a non-profit organization providing a 10-week personalized course of guitar instruction to Waco VA outpatients whom receive their own acoustic guitar and accessories upon graduation. Top constantly strives to further the mission of the organization by holding board of director and membership meetings, adding membership benefits, overseeing organization events and always advocates for the artists whom compose, perform, and participate in live music performance. Under his leadership MACT has increased it's fundraising efforts for community non-profits and hosted events providing performance opportunities for local musicians. |
